1992—1993 • CONSTRUCTIONS: SYSTEMS OF CHANCE

In this work the traditional sized format (14 x 17") has been loosened to explore irregular rectangular shapes. While the photo-metal etching still plays an important role, it no longer occupies the center of each construction. Perhaps the compromise provokes questions as to the significance of permanence, or maybe this is an attempt to submerge the metaphor into a more secluded place.

There are several niches carved out representing doors and windows that delve into ideas about chance and fate, protection and alienation. It is during this time that abstract notions of mind, body and soul take shape in the form of configurations of three. This theme will show up in varying manifestations during the next ten years. The reflection on the number three also inspired the Tic-Tac-Toe series. In this series the game is looked at as a system of chance.
